What Are The Health Benefits of Hot Springs?

If the idea of soaking your troubles away while reclining in a hot spring sounds like pure bliss, then you would be right!

This isn’t any regular soak-in-your-tub experience though, the benefits of soaking in hot springs are quite remarkable!

Cultures have acknowledged the phenomenal healing benefits of mineral hot springs for centuries and a major reason for their healing benefits is their high mineral content that is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.

Hot springs form when “water deep below the Earth’s surface is heated by rocks or other means, and rises to the Earth’s surface.”

This water accumulates more than 100 natural trace minerals as it makes its way up, including chloride, iron, magnesium and sulfate to name a few. These minerals are found in their most pure form in naturally formed hot springs.

This is healing that goes beyond simple relaxation, and each hot spring provides its own unique benefits depending on the type of concentrated minerals it contains.

Keep reading to find out just a few of the incredible benefits of hot springs.

Helps to relax the muscles

You may have heard of epsom salts, rich in magnesium, to help ease muscle tension and pain, as well as helping to provide deeply relaxing effects.

Hot springs will provide these benefits because they are rich in magnesium, but the addition of the other minerals simply enhances the already soothing effects for an experience that is truly like no other.

You’ll feel like you’ve had a full body massage when you step out.

Helps to detoxify the body

Minerals are an excellent way to help detoxify your body by flushing toxins out of your system. Dry brushing and then soaking a tub are one of my favorite ways to enjoy a full body detox.

A hot spring has everything you need though, to help you enjoy a full body detox, all you need to do is lay back and take it all in.

Helps to maintain healthy blood pressure levels

Before you worry that the hot water can push up your blood pressure, it may help to know that high levels of sodium and potassium, present in natural hot springs, can help to keep blood pressure levels stable and under control.

Will help you to sleep better

Naturally, the relaxing effects of this powerful combo of minerals is going to help you to sleep better, just make sure you don’t fall asleep in the spring!

Boosts blood circulation

The combination of powerful healing minerals along with steamy water will help to boost fresh blood flow around your body to keep your insides clean while contributing to an instant healthy, rosy, glow.

Improves immunity

The rich iron concentrations along with all the other wonderful minerals may help to improve your immunity so your body's better able to fight off infections and viruses.

The healing you experience when treating your mind and body to a hot spring is unlike anything you have ever experienced before.

Beautiful Hawaii is my home and very special to my heart so it only makes sense that I should share some of the best spots to enjoy a warm soak on the Big Island!
